February 24th, Angaston Show

Saturday Feb 24th, Angaston Football Clubrooms – 1.30pm start

We are thrilled to be partnering with the Angaston Show again in 2024 to bring you a personalised hands-on preserving workshop hosted in the Angaston Football Club rooms.  Immerse yourself in the buzz and activity of show day and take home something much more valuable than a plastic show bag!

Fowlers preserving is a traditional food skill developed more than 100 years ago that allowed families all over the country to take their summer and autumn produce and put it away for the lean months of winter.  This skill is cheap, it’s easy, it requires limited equipment and it is enormously satisfying. Consequently it is still an enduring food story, as valid now as 100 yeas ago.    Forget the images of your grandmother slaving over boiling pots of water for hours on end – this process is now very quick, very easy, and incredibly practical (and there is no boiling water required).  It ticks so many boxes in terms of sustainability, nutrition, frugality, resourcefulness and cost savings…and did we mention its fun?

If you would like to learn how to create a sustainable pantry that utilises your seasonal excess in a safe and shelf stable manner, then we would love to have you join  us on in the Footy Clubrooms as we step you through what you need, how to do it, and how to get great results.  As experienced preservers Marieka and Sheralee will teach you what you need and how to do it and to provide tips and tricks about how to use your bottled produce to form the foundation of your everyday cooking. The format is very relaxed and there are plenty of opportunities to ask questions or seek guidance.  Please see the FAQ section below for details regarding workshop format and run times.

You will take home a jar of fruit, an instruction booklet, and a valuable new skill in your kitchen repertoire.    Children under the age of 12 are welcome to purchase tickets, but they must have some proficiency with using a small sharp knife and will need a guardian to attend with them.   Please contact us if you have any specific access requirements or if you will require seating during the workshop.  We will happily do everything we can to help.

*PLEASE NOTE:  Workshop ticket purchase does not provide entry to the show grounds.  Please support our local Angaston Show by purchasing your show entry ticket at the gate on the day.
